The New Gallery: Resource Centre Assistant

The New Gallery (TNG) is seeking applications for a temporary Resource Centre Assistant to work within TNG’s Resource Centre at the John Snow House.

Candidates should be undergraduate students returning to studies in the fall, those with plans to enroll in future studies or recent graduates. All applicants should have formal education in the areas of fine art, art history, museum and heritage studies, library and information management, communications, or another related field and should have an interest in the arts, artist-run culture and information management. Good research skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain focus while undertaking repetitive tasks are essential. Candidates will be working under the direction of the John Snow House Director. Some training will be provided.

The role of the Resource Centre Assistant is to help the John Snow House Director in the organization and digitization of archival and Resource Centre material.

Basic responsibilities include:
· Creating electronic records for digital assets
· Creating electronic records for Resource Centre periodicals, catalogues and books
· Scanning slides and photographs to create digital images
· Digital image editing
· Copyright research
· Research about artists and exhibitions
· Filing
· Adding keywords to existing records
· Creating a distribution list for current publications
· Organizing books and periodicals on shelves
· Responding to public inquiries about the Resource Centre and its contents
· Light housekeeping and gardening
· Other duties as assigned

Application:
The deadline for application is April 03, 2012, 5:00 PM. Review of applications will begin on April 03, 2012. This is a summer contract position, open to returning students and recent graduates, and subject to the availability of funding. The rate of pay will be $13.00 per hour for 30 hours per week for 16 weeks.
