Call for Submissions: Dance Montage

DUE JUNE 17, 2013

The Dance Montage Selection Committee invites aspiring, new, emerging, and established choreographers of all genres to submit a proposal for the 44th Annual Dance Montage. Dance Montage includes an audition for casting, 10 weeks of rehearsal on the University of Calgary campus (once a week), and culminates in four public performances at the University Theatre. Dance Montage focuses on new dance works, but also considers re-mounts/excerpts from existing work.

Auditions: Sunday September 8, 2013 | 9am ‐ 8pm
Rehearsal Period: September 15 – November 17, 2013 (10 weeks)*
Tech Week: November 17‐21, 2013
Performance Dates: November 21‐23, 2013 | University Theatre, University of Calgary
*Rehearsals are typically scheduled in 2-hour slots on Sundays at the University of Calgary, but alternate arrangements may be made if space and cast are available.

Dance Montage is a proud tradition at the University of Calgary. Since its inception in 1969, Dance Montage has created lively creation and performance opportunities for both beginning and experienced dance artists that celebrates the spirit and community of dance in Calgary. Recent Dance Montages have included up to 10 choreographers and 120 dancers performing world dance, contemporary, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, ballroom, bollywood, dance-theatre, all-male pieces, and work for ages 40+, amongst others. Choreographers receive an honourarium for their work.

Only completed applications submitted on time will be considered.

Call for Submissions: Langevin Science School - Mural

The Calgary Board of Education’s Langevin Science School is currently seeking proposals from artists or groups of artists interested in working alongside students, teachers, parent committee and Artist-In-Residence to create an exterior, public art mural for the school and its community of Bridgeland/Riverside.
The call is open to all artists, however preference will be given to proposals submitted by Calgary based artists.
Call for submissions closes Thursday 13 June 2013 at 4:00pm.

Call for Submissions: Ruberto Ostberg Gallery

The Ruberto Ostberg Gallery invites you to submit artwork for the fourth annual June Group Exhibition – ‘Connections 2013’.

Show Details
The show date is June 14th – July 6th, 2013.
Opening reception is Friday, June 14th, 5-9 pm and Saturday June 15th, 2-5 pm.

Submission Requirements:

This is an open-call, open-theme, open-medium juried show.
Submissions will be received at the Gallery June 10th, 2PM – 7PM.
You may submit a maximum of 2 artworks. Please bring only 2 works with you when you come to the gallery to submit your work.
Artwork size should not exceed 30” (H) x 40” (W) for 2D artworks and 36” (H) x 12” (W) x 15” (D) for 3D artworks.
There will be a $30.00 GST incl. entry fee. Work must be clearly labeled and exhibition ready.
Artworks will be selected for the show by a jury panel.
Artist will be contacted ONLY if their work is NOT selected. Unselected artwork must be picked up on June 12th 7PM – 8PM and June 13th 10AM – 12PM.

Please bring TWO (2) copies of the submission form (completed and signed) and your entry fee payment $30 (GST included) with you when you come to the gallery to submit your work.

Call for Submissions: PARK - Street Art

CALL TO ARTISTS:

PARK (Promoting Artists Redefining Kulture) and Winebar Kensington in Calgary are currently looking for an artist that shoots Street Art to submit 10-15 images to be framed and hung in the Kensington Winebar for the period of June 1 through September 7, 2013. The opening reception would take place on June 2nd, 2013 2:00-6:00PM and we would like the artist to be in attendance.

Call is open immediately and closes Weds, May 22nd 2013 at which time the chosen artist will be contacted.

There is NO vendors fees and FREE Admission to the public
Note that set-up & registration is from 8:00 - 9:45AM while the event will run between 10:00AM and 5:00PM. Clean-up will take place between 5:00PM and 6:00PM. Vendors are expected to remain open for the duration of the event.

Call for Submissions: Southern Alberta Woodworkers Society - 2013 Fine Works in Wood Exhibition & Sale

OVERVIEW
The 2013 “Fine Works in Wood” Exhibition is a juried exhibition featuring Works predominantly of wood. Materials other than wood may be used to complement the design. Importance will be given to original designs, excellence in workmanship and diversity of approach. Work of a very high standard is being sought and Makers are encouraged to be very critical of what they submit.

EXHIBITION INFORMATION
Southern Alberta Woodworkers Society (SAWS) has been hosting woodworking Exhibitions for three decades. SAWS is a non-profit Society located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Its mandate is to promote fine woodworking to the public and to raise interest in SAWS by encouraging membership.
To this end, SAWS is presenting its biennial “Fine Works In Wood” Exhibition from August 30 through September 8, 2013 at Southcentre Mall. The mall is a premier venue with approximately 30,000 guests per day. Furthermore, the Exhibition will then be on display at the DaDe ART & DESIGN LAB (located in Inglewood) from September 13 through October 27, 2013.

Call for Submissions: The New Gallery - Main Space

THE NEW GALLERY : MAIN SPACE CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Deadline: June 30, 2013

The New Gallery (TNG) is currently seeking proposals for our 2014 Main Space programming. Our Main Space is currently located at 212, 100 7 Ave SW in the Art Central building in downtown Calgary. The gallery contains approximately 900 sq ft of exhibition space. A detailed floor plan can be found on our website: http://thenewgallery.org/submit. Shows are five weeks in duration.

Main Space programming comprises exhibitons by artists, collaborators, curators, and other cultural producers from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We work closely with artists to create critically-relevant shows that advance contemporary art in our local and national communities. Please note that TNG accepts proposals for solo shows, but the Programming Committee may also consider individual artists for inclusion in a curated group project.

TNG is an non-profit artist-run centre and observes CARFAC-stipulated payment schedules, offering an artist fee of $1739 for a solo show. Additionally, we provide limited financial resources to aid artists in managing shipping and travel costs.

The following materials should be included in your application:

  1. Proposal: Briefly describe your exhibition or Main Space project. Provide complete details of your spatial, physical, and material requirements, including any special equipment and technical needs.
  2. Artist Statement: Discuss how your proposed project is situated in relation to your current artistic practice and the broader context of your work, research, and interests.
  3. Support: Please include up to fifteen pieces of additional support material, including digital images, videos, text excerpts, or audio clips alongside a corresponding numbered image list detailing the artwork's title, medium, physical size, date of completion, and any other necessary descriptors. Our Programming Committee will review up to a maximum of five minutes of time-based work.
  4. Curriculum Vitae: Describe your artistic background to a maximum length of three pages. Please include all relevant contact information.

The New Gallery only accepts digital submissions via e-mail. Paper materials will be discarded and recycled. Please format all written materials as a single .pdf document. Images must be numbered RGB .jpeg files with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels at 72 dpi and no larger than 1 MB in size. TNG accepts links to video and audio work hosted online. E-mailed applications must be submitted in a single .zip folder containing both documents and images.

Then this live art fundraiser battle to raise funds for the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (www.aarcs.ca) is for you!

This fast paced and exhilarating competition offers a unique chance for your audience to plunge themselves into a friendly frenzy of creative and heated battle while you and your fellow artists transform blank canvasses into irreplaceable masterpieces! Based on a mystery theme announced only moments before the battle commences, you will rally your paint (or whatever medium you prefer), tools, creative juices and adrenalin to create your magic in 30 minutes or less!

You will showcase your talent in Calgary’s innovative National Music Centre. There will be three combat rounds of 30 minutes each. At the end of each round the audience will bid on their favorite pieces so that they can take home an extraordinary work of art.

The two artists capturing the highest bids will move into the next round, and the ultimate winner in the final round will receive a fabulous gift basket, ultimate bragging rights and of course the very genuine and heartfelt thanks from us for donating your time and creativity to help animals in need!

If you are chosen to compete, 50% of the proceeds from purchased art in the auction will go to the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS). We look forward to your submission!

Call for Submissions: Sled Island Art

Sled Island is currently accepting art exhibition, performance, installation and design proposals for the 2013 edition of Sled Island Music and Arts Festival. This is a unique opportunity for emerging artists/designers/performers/illustrators to engage with a context that embraces the spirit and relationship between the visual arts and music in Calgary.

We’re looking for art/design/curatorial proposals that will contribute site-specific, unique, intriguing, enhanced or additional environments and experiences for festival goers to encounter at the various venues of the Sled Island festival program.

Your submission package should include:

250 word Proposal Summary (maximum, over 250 words will not be considered)

Call for Submissions: University City Condo's Public Sculpture Competition

University City Condo's is Calgary’s first (TOD) Transit Oriented Development, and we are proud to support the Arts in Alberta. We are providing funding for a public sculpture to be located on site. We are looking for a sculpture that reinforces the importance of community and sustainability. This competition is open to emerging to established artists; we also invite students enrolled full-time in a Fine Arts/Architecture program at a recognized university or post-seconday institution.
Budget: $100,000 CAD (Maximum)
